BEIJING, China - The China central government is forcing 90% of the country’s Lead-Acid battery plants to shut down their operations. According to a recent Bloomberg report, China is making a big effort to limit lead poisoning cases.
The Bloomberg report notes that local environmental protection bureaus have inspected 1,744 lead-storage battery makers and only 229 are still operating. The financial news agency qouted Cao Guoqing, deputy secretary general of the China Battery Industry Association.
Acoording to the China Battery Industry Association, 160.2 million Kilovolt-Ampere Hour of lead- acid batteries were produced in China last year, which used 3.13 million tons of lead. Lead-Acid batteries are still used in batteries for e-bikes. However, the usage is decreasing as more and more e-bikes are fitted with Li-Ion batteries.
