Solar Charged E-bike Sharing Program in Portugal

CASCAIS, Portugal – The city of Cascais put two e-bike docking stations in use for their e-bike sharing program which were donated by Donauer Solar Systems. Each consists of a small cabin with a capacity of four e-bikes that are charged through two solar panels.

The opening ceremony for the two docking stations was attended by Rudolf Donauer CEO of Donauer Solar Systems, along with Germany’s ambassador in Portugal Helmut Elfenkämper, Cascais city mayor, Carlos Carreiras and Ana Cristina Arnedo GM of Donauer Solar Systems Portugal.

The bike stations in Cascais are located on a very strategic location, just at the beginning of a cycle path along the ocean boulevard. They are also integrated in the Bicas project, the ‘normal’ bike sharing program of Cascais.

The bikes are charged in four hours although 80% of the battery is charged within the first two hours. It is no problem to charge them when the sun is not shining as the docking station has its own batteries which are charged contineously.

German based Donauer Solar Systems is one of Europe’s largest specialists in solar power energy and renewables with offices in Portugal, Italy, France, Belgium, the UK, and Czech Republic.
