MADRID, Spain – Spanish chainstore El Corte Inglés started negotiations with the German Metro Group for the Galeria Kaufhof department stores. Already for some time Metro is trying to sell Kaufhof.
According to a recent report in the German trade journal for supermarkets ‘Lebensmittel Zeitung’ Metro and El Corte Inglés discussed not only a complete take-over, but also the founding of a joint venture under which the Kaufhof department stores could operate.
El Corte Inglés was named earlier as a candidate for the take-over of Kaufhof. The Spanish chainstore sells BH, B-Pro and Scott branded bikes as well as a complete P&A program including bike-wear. Kaufhof doesn’t offer any complete bikes and only a limited P&A program.
