ETRA Honorary President Jacques Lenel Passed Away

GAND, Belgium – Jacques Lenel, Vice-President of the French dealer association FNCRM and Honorary President of ETRA, deceased suddenly. He died at his home on 11th October at the age of 81.

Jacques Lenel was a founding father of the European Two-Wheeler Retailers’ Association (ETRA). He was one of the initiators of the trade association in 1995 and he has been an active member of the Committee since. He was President of ETRA from 1999 until 2003 when he handed over Presidency to Nigel Hill. Since the foundation of ETRA in 1995, he hardly missed any meeting.

Jacques Lenel and his wife, Jacqueline, had a successful bicycle and moped shop in the centre of Charleville-Mézières; in the Champagnes-Ardennes region of France. They were extremely happy when, a few years ago, they were able to pass the business on to a young successor who continued it with success. An afternoon visit to the shop was still part of Mr Lenel’s daily routine.

After his retirement, he devoted his time to the French association, FNCRM (Federation Nationale du Commerce en de la Reperation du Cycle et du Motocycle) and to ETRA. For FNCRM, he among other things took care of the monthly magazine. He firmly believed in the importance of two-wheel retailers cooperating and communicating beyond national borders.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday 19 October at 3 p.m. in the church Saint Paul la Bellevue du Nord in Warcq (F).

I was extremely saddened to learn (from your Bike Europe Newsletter) that Monsieur Lenel had passed away. Our company (MAILLON : distributor for BBB & other products) has had quite a lot of contact with the FNCRM, and Jacques LENEL in particular, over the past few years and we discovered an extremely intelligent, knowledgeable, amusing and kind person. It’s not always the case in business that you meet such people and even less frequent that they are unanimously appreciated. We have lost a real gentleman who always defended the cause of serious, professional distribution and who championed high standards. We are very sad indeed.
