About fifty e-bike professionals from all over the world attended today’s Eurobike Electric Bike Business Seminar. The by the European Two-Wheeler Retailers’ Association (ETRA) in cooperation with the Light Electric Vehicle Association (LEVA) organized seminar touched upon a wide variety of topics which were all related to rules & regulations for pedelecs and speed e-bikes.
After the opening of the seminar by ETRA President Erik Oddershede the Machine Directive was outlined by Wilhelm Sonntag, Department Manager Mechanical Products of TÜV Rheinland. He pointed out how e-bike companies are to comply with the technical and administrative requirements of the Machine Directive while he also explained self-certification procedures versus certification by a test-house.
The state of affairs regarding the type-approval review was subsequently presented by ETRA secretary general Annick Roetynck. She also clarified the impact of the type-approval on electric bikes. After a lively discussion on the matter and a Q&A session, the next speaker – Stefanie Reetz – described the possible use of satellite applications in the e-bike business. As a policy coordinator from Eurisy (the non-profit association bridging space and society) she is regarded as THE expert on the subject. After an exchange of ideas on satellite applications, the seminar conclusions were presented by LEVA President Ed Benjamin.
