MILAN, Italy – Full Spead Ahead (FSA) issued a voluntary recall of some series of their 2010 BB30 Gossamer cranksets. These cranksets were specked by a group of eight OEMs that distributed the bikes in the US and Europe. The bolt shoulder on the non-drive crank arm of the BB30 Gossamer can crack or break if the fixing bolt is over-tightened. If this occurs, the non-drive arm can fall off the bicycle. Therefore consumers are called to stop using this crank immediately unless otherwise instructed.
FSA sold 9,300 units of the affected cranksets worldwide, of which 8,500 in the US and 800 in Europe.
The exact specifications of the recalled crank sets are: Gossamer Pro BB30 CK-OS6021CC, Gossamer Pro Compact BB30 CK-OSC6021CC, Gossamer BB30 CK-OS6020SS and the Gossamer Compact BB30 CK-OSC6020SS
The Gossamer BB30 non-drive crank arms that are subject to the recall have serial numbers beginning with 10B, 10C, and 10D. These serial numbers are located on the backside of the crank arm by pedal threads (Figure 2). MegaExo crank arms and the Gossamer BB30 Triple crank sets are not affected.
Gossamer BB30 crank sets have been assembled as original equipment on the following bicycles for Europe:
- Bianchi SEMPRE Ultegra
- Bianchi SEMPRE 105
- Bianchi SEMPRE Veloce 10v
- Cannondale CAAD 10 105
- Cannondale CAAD 8 105
- Cannondale Synapse Carbon 105/Apex
- Cannondale Synapse Alloy 105/Apex
- Cannondale Super Six 5 105
For the US market the Gossamer BB30 crank sets have been assembled as original equipment on the following bicycles:
