MUNICH, Germany – The announcement of Messe Munich to launch a new bike industry show backed by Europe’s biggest dealer cooperative ZEG did not come entirely unexpected. In particular after the demise of the IFMA. During a decade of keen competition with Eurobike, the Friedrichshafen show prevailed and has been ‘chosen’ by the bike industry as its number one show.

For these reasons it is quite surprising that the results of a Bike Europe Poll on ZEG’s Bike Expo indicate that the industry is not downright rejecting the new Munich Show.

During the past week well over five hundred visitors of www.bike-eu.com presented their opinion on our question: “I welcome the new Bike Expo Show in Munich, Germany”. A remarkable 54% voted ‘Yes’ on this question while 41% voted for: ‘No, Eurobike covers all the business needs’. The remaining 5% voted for ‘no opinion’.

Viewing Eurobike’s rising popularity the bike industry presents a positive opinion on Bike Expo.

Why is 54% of the bike industry welcoming this new show? Has it got to do with the timing? Bike Expo is taking place from 23 – 26 July, 2009. Or is the industry getting tired with the infrastructure problems that go with exhibiting and visiting Eurobike?

Perhaps people are confident about the future of Bike Expo as ZEG is putting its weight behind it. Last week ZEG made the objectives of the new show crystal clear: it must turn into the biggest and most important bike show. This statement indicates that Messe Munich as well as the ZEG is planning a full scale attack on Eurobike.
