IRC Launches Lightest Road and MTB Tubeless Tyres

IRC, the Japanese tyre manufacturer, is launching what it claims to be the world’s lightest tubeless road tyre. IRC —short for Inoue Rubber Co., Ltd.— offers this tyre under the name “Formula Pro Tubeless Light” with a very supple high 180 TPI casing and ultra light inner seal technology.

It weighs 240 grams in a 700 X 23C size. IRC’s new Formula Pro Tubeless Light is suited for 90 and 115 psi; between 6 and 8 bar. The tyre offers a rolling resistance that, according to IRC, is similar to top clinchers and tubular tyres currently available although it is made for all-weather conditions. Only tyres made for dry-weather conditions have a slightly better rolling resistance e.g. IRC’s “Top Secret Tubeless” model. IRC is introducing the “Formula Pro Tubeless Light” in the European and US markets now.

IRC’s wide range of MTB tyres, IRC has been expanded with the “Mythos XC Tubeless”. The tyre is made for cross-country racing and scored good results in elite XC racing in Japan recently. What’s interesting is a new knob pattern that includes slightly protruding side knobs.

The company says it should give XC racers a boost by allowing them to corner more sharply. The top-of-the-line version is a tubeless model made with a very supple 180 TPI casing and IRCs ultra light inner seal technology. The 26-inch tyre weighs just 590 grams in a 1.95-inch width, while its 2.10-inch sibling weighs 645 grams and the 2.2-inch is only 675 grams.

IRC presented also its newest “29 Mythos XC Tubeless” at the 2011 Interbike Show. The tyre uses also the very supple 180 TPI casing and ultra light inner seal technology. The 29-er 2.10-inch tyre weights less than 700gr.
