FÜRTH, Germany (18 January)- German retail giant Karstadt-Quelle AG has plans to take over a controlling interest in the French holding company Afigest S.A. based in Lille. Afigest is a public company and major shareholder of the special interest mail order supplier Afibel which has been in business for more than 50 years. With the takeover of fashionwear mail order supplier Afibel, the German retail giant (forecasted EBIT 2000: DEM 510 million) will strengthen its successful special interest mail order business. Actually Quelle AG, a subsidiary of Karstadt-Quelle, already has 12 special interest mail order suppliers under its roof. Karstadt-Quelle AG also sells bicycles, bicycle parts and accessories through its Karstadt department stores and Karstadt Sport sporting goods outlets as well as through its large Quelle mail order business.(JB)
