BANGOR, US - The Light Electric Vehicle (LEV) industry is organizing a global trade association. The group’s first organizational meeting will be held in Shanghai the day before the China Cycle Show opens its doors on May 3, 2009.
The aim of the group is to develop technical standards for LEVS and promote use of LEVs worldwide. All component suppliers, manufacturers, assemblers, wholesalers, retailers, and interested individuals are invited to join.
Several leading companies are already listed as member, like: Currie Acquisitions LLC, Dahon, Dynamo Group, Electrobike Ltd., Go-Kid Quadcoasters, LA Bicycle Co.,Ltd., Optibike LLC, Segway Inc., Tokyo R&D Co., Ltd.
Light electric vehicles are defined as battery, fuel cell, or hybrid-powered two-or-three-wheel vehicles generally weighing less than 200 pounds (100 Kilogram). Of this group, electric bicycles are the most common, with the majority of products manufactured and sold coming from China.
Industry advocate, Ed Benjamin, is the founder and Sid Kuropchak is the executive director of the LEV association. Vivian Wei is the China contact and in the future a European contact will be named.
