Meghna Rubber Expands Tyre Production

Bangladesh based Meghna Rubber Industries Ltd. is expanding the bicycle tyre/tube production at its Dacca based facility. “We are spending about US$ 5 million on ramping up the capacity this year,” said Mizanur Rahman, Chairman, Meghna Group (photo) at last week’s Shanghai Show.

Currently the Meghna Rubber tyre/tube production capacity stands at about 400,000 units per month. “Our products have received a very good response in our main European markets and we are flushed with orders. As a result, we have decided to hike the tyre/tube making capacity to 1 million pieces every month by 2010,” according to Rahman.

Meghna Rubber Industries Ltd. (MRIL), formerly Meghna Innova Rubber Company Ltd. was founded as a joint venture company with Innova Rubber of Taiwan. Now, it is the largest bicycle tyre/tube making company in Bangladesh with 100% local ownership.

Meghna is also launching an all new tyre range targeting the high end EU markets in 2009. “We are unveiling a new brand ‘M-TRAXX’ to tap the dealer market in Europe.” The new range is to hit the dealer shops by July 2009. The company continues to sell its popular ‘Meghna’ branded tyres and tubes to the OEM market.
