BRUSSELS, Belgium - Last Friday the EU rapid alert system for dangerous consumer products, RAPEX, announced the voluntary withdrawal from the market by Merida of its S-Presso series. The recall is issued because the fork assembly may break where it joins the fork crown. There’s one incident recorded where such a defect took place without causing injury.
The recalled models – S-Presso 100-D, 300-D and i8-D - have been manufactured between 2008 and 2010 in Taiwan. In the Benelux countries, Holland, Belgium and Luxemburg, some 100 S-Presso models have been sold during the named period.
According to Peter Koperdraad, GM of Merida Benelux, this limited number is due to the fact that the S-Presso models have a distinct design as urban café racers. He added that the number of Merida S-Presso bikes sold throughout Europe is also be limited. Merida will inform its dealers on the recall and supply them with replacement front forks.
