Michelin Pro4: Pushing The Envelope on All Fronts

Throughout Michelin’s 120-year history, the company’s research specialists and developers have always been among the leaders in bicycle tyre innovation. This year, a key challenge in the development of the Michelin PRO4 tyre series was to produce a range of tyres capable of going more quickly. But that wasn’t the only goal.

For three years, Michelin’s engineers have been working on improving performance in several areas that many consider irreconcilable fronts. Now the company is unveiling a new family of Michelin PRO4 road tyres made up of four products.

Maximum efficiency for different forms of cycling served as the cornerstone for each of the four tyres. The Pro4 Endurance offers better protection and longer tyre life. The Pro4 Service Course is designed for all-round performance. Rolling efficiency is emphasized with the PRO4 Comp Service Course, while the PRO4 Comp Limited Service Course is maximized for speed.

Key features of the line include dual compound design and durable 110 TPI casing and a bead-to-bead breaker ply for the Endurance. The Service Course’s all-round performance is achieved through wider lateral bands and new compounds using elastomers and silica for improved grip, along with a more pointed profile. It’s also 16% faster when cornering in wet conditions and the dual compound offers superior rigidity for the central part of the Michelin Pro4 Service Course’s tread band, for even longer tyre life.
