Michelin Rolls Out Protek Technology For Kids and Folding Bikes

Folding bicycles are mostly used in towns, where puncture protection is a key issue, since roads in big cities tend to be filled with debris. In addition, junior bicycles are not always used on a regular basis, so superior aging qualities in the tire material are very much appreciated by the parents of these end-users.

Another issue with irregular use is that tire pressure on junior bicycles is often too low. All good reasons why puncture protection is a big advantage in tires designed for childrens’ bikes and folders. To this end Michelin has developed a range of small size city tires with the Protek Plus Protection system.

The sizes available are 37-406 (20x1.50) and 47-507 (24x1.85) covering most of the common folding and junior bicycles. Michelin’s Protek technology provides long lasting resistance against UV radiation, ozone, temperature variations, pinched tubes and punctures. This technology delivers optimal protection throughout the tire’s life.

Protek features a special tread compound that contains anti-oxidants to deliver superior aging, weather and pollution resistance. The puncture-resistant layer under the tread band significantly reduces the risk of punctures, while a pinched tube and gash prevention system on the sidewalls ensures greater resistance to lateral damage.
