AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands – It’s not official yet, but as highlighted at several websites that are deep into roadracing, Shimano is launching an electronic shifting Ultegra groupset for MY 2012.
With the electronic Ultegra groupset, type-named Di2 6770, Shimano is applying its usual ‘downgrading’ strategy after introducing precise and effortless shifting in its top level Dura-Ace components in 2009.
Since that launch the influence of Di2 is seen in frame design everywhere. Each bike manufacturer has their specifically made Di2 frame, where only the power wires can be fitted (through the down tube) and not the old cables.
On prices it is said that the new Ultegra groupset will take electronic shifting in road bikes to a retail price level of about 3,000 euro.
