Last week Bob Chicken passed away in his sleep. Stalwart. Resolute. Pioneer. If things went in just threes then it would be easy to sum up Bob Chicken's contribution to the British cycling scene with such words.
Hardly so: the Man has been better than almost a dictionary of description, his presence across the UK Trade and cyclesport coming from his heart, yet with a head that knew the marketeer's craft as very few in the bicycle trade could claim.
Bob Chicken (90) was a man I'd known for near forty years, and always he demonstrated the absolute championing of European manufactured product, without compromise, so absolutely forthright.
Not any more do they make them like Bob Chicken: the world has just lost a Real Man of Cycling.
