SRAM Cycling Fund Awards US$200,000 to the European Cyclists Federation

CHICAGO, USA - The SRAM Cycling Fund is pleased to announce a US$ 200,000 (€ 150,000) grant to be paid over two years to the European Cyclists’ Federation. These funds will be used by the ECF for lobbying efforts at the European Commission and European Parliament to build support for improved cycling infrastructure throughout Europe.

The European Cyclists’ Federation was founded in 1983 by 12 bicycle user associations. It now has 56 member organizations in 38 countries.  Manfred Neun, the president of the ECF, emphasized the mission of the ECF is to ensure that bicycle use achieves its fullest potential so as to bring about sustainable mobility and public well-being. To achieve these aims, the ECF seeks to change attitudes, policies and budget allocations at the European level.

The Secretary General of the ECF, Bernhard Ensink said “the SRAM Cycling Fund grant will accelerate our efforts to educate and convince European political leaders of the importance of bicycles as part of daily transportation, recreation and tourism.”

Stan Day, the president of SRAM, said “the ECF has demonstrated its commitment and leadership in advocating for cycling infrastructure across Europe.  The SRAM Cycling Fund is excited to provide these funds and looks forward to finding additional ways to support European cycling advocacy efforts”.

An overview of the specific objectives of the European Cycling Fund as they relate to this grant can be found at www.sramcyclingfund.org or www.ecf.com

This is the fifth in a series of awards made by SRAM’s Cycling Fund, which was created on September 30, 2008. During the next five years, the Fund plans to award $10 million in grants to support committed national advocacy efforts that enhance cycling infrastructure, safety and access.
