TAICHUNG, Taiwan – At today’s Taipei Cycle Show 2012 press conference in Taichung, Taiwan Walter Yeh, Executive Vice President of show organizer TAITRA (left on photo) and Tony Lo (right), Giant President and Chairman of the Taiwan Bicycle Exporters Association, reported that bicycle export from Taiwan dropped by 14% during the first ten months of this year in units. The main reason for this decline is the bad market situation for Taiwan bicycles on the European market.
Contrary to the declining export to the European Union, the average FOB price of bicycles exported from Taiwan increased by a big 32% to US$ 372 in the same period. The total export amounted US$ 1.3 billion from January up to and including October this year, an increase of 12.5%. “Taiwan is no longer supplier of low and mid end bicycles, but we are strongly focusing on high end products, new design and product innovation”, said Tony Lo.
New Nangang Exhibition Hall
Also at the Taipei Cycle press conference, Walter Yeh stated that the construction of a new Nangang Exhibition Hall will start soon. “The new building will be ready by 2015 allowing us to organize other, different shows which are all related to the Taipei Cycle Show on one location, like the Taipei Int’l Sport Textile and Accessories Expo and the Sport Diving Show. Both events will take place for the first time in 2012 and simultaneously with the Taipei Cycle Show.
