Waterproof bracket set the Ideal Solution?
SCHWEINFURT,Germany – SKF have developed a bracket axle for demanding mountainbikers and world travellers: even if you ride under water or in knee-deep quicksand (take care to get out in time!) the SKF bracket inners will keep dry. The axle has an ISIS interface on both sides, and it rolls in a one-piece shell that fits the regular chain line bracket. The SKF bracket has one ball bearing on the left side, and a roller bearing on the chain side, and axial seals on both sides. With a stainless steel spindle, the cartridge is waterproof like a Panerai divers’ watch, and the hard shell ensures exact alignment of the bearings. Among others, SR Suntour and Stronglight make fitting cranksets for ISIS brackets. SKF suggest that water and mud damage to integrated cranksets often requires replacement of more than the failing part, and that seems a sensible thought for all those who have to pay any repairs themselves.(OB)
