It is made in Belgium and called Zapata. The company started back in 2006 with its first carbon wheels which were made for a few Belgian racers. They asked for affordable strong, light and, above all, reliable wheels. At that time the company could only offer 38mm tubulars.

Founder Charles de Romrée of Zapata Advanced Hardware says: “We decided to build our wheels by ourselves in Belgium. They are not built by a ‘Guru’ and we didn’t reinvent the wheel: they are simply carefully built.

No exotics spokes and nipples that you can’t find spare parts for, no hubs that you can’t repair or service. Our wheels are really affordable, they are strong, we can repare them easily, so can do our dealers. We have all the spare parts. Many of our wheels are raced in Cyclo-Cross on the famous Flanders tracks, the toughest test for wheels you can imagine.”

Zapata currently offers a full range of Carbon clinchers and tubulars wheels; for professional racers as well as for cyclists that want good quality at a reasonable price. For 2010 Zapata is expanding its range with  alloy rimmed wheelsets. “They are based on the same fine hubs, have more spokes, are really light and come at a very competitive price,” states Charles de Romrée.
