Rodi Focuses on Weight Reduction
Portuguese wheel and rim maker Rodi has restyled its complete Black Jack range for 2010. Next to this restyling Rodi strongly focussed on weight reduction of the rims as well as the wheelsets.
To reduce the weight to the max, Rodi has started to use 6082 T6 aluminium for its Black Jack program. All these changes have been implemented in the Black Jack welded as well as the sleeved ranges. The top model rims for mountain biking are the M380 and the Disc XC400.
The cross country M380 rim weighs just 399 grams and the full set 1626 grams. The disc version rim is slightly lighter; just 388 grams while the set weights 1882 grams. The road race set is off course the lightest of all, the set weights 1617 grams.
For the Black Jack welded range, Rodi uses not only a different technique to create the distinction but also a higher quality of spokes and hubs. This turns out the best at the road race Skypper set weighing just 1477 grams (instead of the 1617 grams).
Apart for the sport segment Rodi offers a wide range of rims and wheels like the WEB, short for ‘Wheel for Electric Bike’. This rim is specially developed for dimple lacing. This type of lacing is commonly used in motorbike rims. It provides a better alignment of the spokes and a good settlement of the nipples on the rim creating a straight line between all elements of the wheel. The WEB rim is available in two sizes, 559x21C and 622x21C and the colours black, white, silver.
