Which tyre handles flat out curves even in driving rain and on greasy surfaces? “No problem for Ultremo Aqua. I don’t know of any other tyre that has so much grip,” claims Christian Lademann, Schwalbe tyre developer and active pro racer. “Even on Mallorca’s notoriously ‘slippery when wet’ roads the Ultremo Aqua was consummately surefooted when cornering.”

In order to achieve such performance and cornering grip Schwalbe gave its rain racer a grippy, “sticky” rubber compound with a diamond tread. According to Lademann, “the tyre rolls as if it’s on rails. Altogether it gives a very secure riding sensation. Since every rubber mixture is a compromise between grip and rolling resistance, naturally this compound has slightly higher resistance."

"The big plus is its speed in curves, which offsets both the higher rolling resistance and higher abrasion, common with soft rubber mixtures. With a weight of just 180 grams the Ultremo Aqua is one of the lightest rain tyres on the market. Despite this it still features High Density Guard, a densely woven protection belt that provides the toughest protection against punctures."

Of course Schwalbe also has an answer to the latest trend in biking, e-bikes. The Energizer (photo) is a special tyre for e-bikes. It has undergone and passed the latest tests and holds an ECE test certificate for use on bikes with speeds up to 50 kilometres per hour. Its modern touring tread is also optimized to meet the requirements of e-Bikes.

Thanks to its special Energizer Compound it runs easily and its Liteskin side walls save weight. These characteristics help preserve limited battery life. Also puncture protection plays a special role as the fitting of rear wheels onto electric bikes is considerably more difficult than ‘normal’ bikes. The Energizer incorporates a Kevlar Guard under the tread centre for a high level of protection.
