Market Researcher NPD Goes Global
PARIS, France – NPD Group, a provider of consumer and retail market research information for a wide range of industries, has signed an agreement to acquire the retail tracking and consumer research businesses of Leisure Trends. This is a market researcher for the sports and recreation industries including cycling.
By combining NPD & Leisure Trends businesses in the United States, “It will be possible to provide the most complete view of the sports, outdoor and recreation marketplace, tracking retail sales and consumer trends across Apparel, Footwear, and Equipment for Running, Outdoor, Fitness, Cycling, and Snow Sports,” says NPD in a press release. It notes further that the combined businesses will be based in Boulder, Colorado USA.
Retail tracking service
The combined NPD & Leisure Trends business presents the largest retail tracking service (point of sales) footprint in the industry in the United States. It will be collecting information from over 26,000 stores covering all channels including Sporting Goods, Specialty Stores, Department Stores, Mass Merchants, eCommerce, and more. Specialty Store coverage will include Outdoor, Snow Sports, Cycling, Running, and Independent Footwear stores.
NPD & Leisure Trends offer access to over 2 million consumers for understanding what’s driving sales through two panels: the ‘Most Active Americans Panel’as well as the ‘Core Athlete Outdoor Enthusiast Panel’ that offers possibilities for a more targeted research. Leisure Trends adds ‘Sports Equipment’ tracking as well as greater depth of coverage for Apparel and Athletic Footwear.
