KUNSHAN, China (May 7) – Bicycle maker Giant-China is to launch its own Giant Outdoor Spirit stores in China and Taiwan soon. Giant’s major reason is the lack of an adequate IBD network in China. About 500 of the 2,000 Chinese Giant retail outlets or 25% will be exclusively on Giant bike sales. The other stores will sell several other A-brands too. 50% of these Chinese retail stores will be owned and operated by Giant and 50% operated through franchisees.
This retail concept also will be launched the Taiwanese home market. “In the longer term we will operate some 300 Giant stores in Taiwan. Unlike China we will operate just 2 pilot stores,” Huang says. These stores are only planned on the markets with a non-satisfying IBD distribution net (and not for the western market) and for A-brand sales only. (JB)
