JARGEAU, France (December 5) – Zéfal decided to take over the ailing Véloland chain for a symbolic amount of € 1 only. Until its receivership earlier this year Véloland, which merged with La Compagnie du Vélo in 2001, operated 48 stores, of which 40 were franchises. Since then several franchisees left Véloland, while others received claims for unpaid fees. Zéfal plans to restructure Véloland from a franchising into a retail service organization with around 30 IBDs throughout France from 2004. Its operational management will be in the hands of Serge Suzanne and Bruno Gambel will become marketing manager. (FN)
