VENLO/ AMERSFOORT, Netherlands (June 5) – Dutch retail organizations Bike Totaal en Twico Retail Support recently signed a Letter of Intent in which they formally decide to investigate the possibilities for cooperation. The Letter of Intent followed after shareholders of Bike Totaal and the Board of Twico had approved this initiative. It is expected that in November the results of the investigation will be sent to the members of both organizations after which final decisions will follow.
“To maintain a balance in the Dutch bike market it’s imperative to have two or three retail organizations instead of the current five. With that in mind the joining of forces will be beneficial for everybody while it also brings a number of synergetic advantages,” says Twico MD Hans Hagendoorn, who acknowledges that exploratory talks with other retail organizations like Bike Totaal had already been taking place for some time. According to Gertjo Janssen, MD of Bike Totaal, this proves that the Bike Totaal and Twico initiative has not been triggered by the recent take over of Veloring by Euretco. “Discussions between our two organizations were already taking place when that happened. We are setting our own course which is aimed at ensuring the continuity of our organizations. First thing for us to do now is to investigate what it will take for us to join forces and what the added value for our members will be.”
Whenever Bike Totaal and Twico will join together, it will create a retail organization with about 300 outlets in Holland which will operate the shop formulas Bike Totaal, Fietsplus en Scooterplus. (AH)
