Velo’s New Open Wing Saddle
TAICHUNG, Taipei – It is the lightest saddle yet from Velo, the patent-pending WOW VL 1683. According to Velo it weighs just 100 gram. Velo’s practically weightless open wing (WOW) saddle system gives new dimension to top competition category road racing.
On display at the Taipei Int’l Cycle Show it features ingenious engineering and state-of-the-art material technology utilizing the intrinsic strength of carbon to form the base, supported by Velo’s patented ArcTech suspension rail system.
Employing the latest UD carbon and advanced multi-forming technology, the result is a cutaway saddle with streamlined performance and enhanced riding comfort through Velo’s unique turnaround strategy: performance through omission rather than addition.
With a mere 10g more weight, the rider enjoys not only the superior anatomical comfort of the new WOW saddle configuration, but the additional cushioned comfort of the strategically foam-padded VL 1684.
The comfort of these two hybrid saddles lies in the absence of material rather than its abundance. While eliminating all excess at the heart of the saddle to reduce superfluous weight, the WOW’s wing configuration actually enhances saddle comfort – relieving pressure on the perineum and thus eliminating the typical numbness plaguing a large proportion of long distance road cyclists world-wide.

The new, all-carbon configuration has undergone stringent testing under the most rigorous of road conditions. The development of the new product has also benefitted from the ongoing research carried out by racing teams around the world in order to improve saddle technology.
Last year, Velo manufactured more than 15 million saddles in its four factories in Taiwan and China. Especially committed to a sustainable environment, Velo manufactures with environmentally certified materials and processes.
