Pinarello Jumps on Accelerating E-MTB Train
TREVISO, Italy – Pinarello presented its first model of a new era: Andromeda Hybrid 9.9, its first e-MTB. The company states, “We decided to enter the e-bike market with a range of high end bikes to meeting the strong expansion in this product category.”
The hardtail Andromeda is based on the concepts studied for the Dogma XM and Dogma XC. According to Pinarello, “everything is designed for maximum integration with the reliable Shimano Steps E8000 series mid-motor that can provide support up to 25 km/h with a power output of 250W and 70Nm torque. The 504 Wh external battery should provide range up to 100 kilometres and 800 metre climb.”
E-MTB market for Pinarello
Pinarello Lab performed several test sessions and the acquired data led to the choice of 120mm travel fork and 35mm stanchions; 29-inch wheels with 30mm wide rim specifically designed for e-bikes and 3.0-inch tyres; front and rear thru axles BOOST.
For the frame Pinarello used the proven Torayca T700 carbon fiber in the unidirectional version. The bike weights less than 20 kilogrammes. The frame comes with internal cable routing, post-mount disc brakes for reliable and high power braking in any condition as well as an exclusive carbon shield to protect the Shimano unit.
Pinarello Andromeda Hybrid 9.9 will be available in three sizes S, M, L and two different colours.
L Catterton, one of the world’s largest consumer-focussed private equity firms, has taken over the majority of the shares of Pinarello Holding last December. Fausto Pinarello, current CEO of Cicli Pinarello Spa, is still the company’s CEO. Obviously the take-over resulted in a financial injection allowing for the expansion of the Pinarello range.
