This morning the sales data on the German market covering the first half of 2017 was announced by industry association Zweirad Industrie Verband (ZIV). What the association notes is that, contrary to last year, the weather during the first six months of 2017 proved to be “quite bicycle-friendly”. But despite these conditions the overall German market volume-wise showed a decline.

Overall sales down by 2.2%

The industry association calculates that a total of 2.64 million bicycles and e-bikes were sold between January and June
2017, representing a decline of 2.2%. Production also dropped slightly below previous year’s level. In the first six months 1.44 million bicycles and e-bikes were produced in Germany representing a decline of 2.7%. According to the ZIV it expects that total sales in numbers of bicycles, e-bikes as well as parts and accessories has increased slightly, particularly as a result of rising e-bike sales. The association also noted that import of bicycles and e-bikes dropped a bit in the first six months while export showed a small increase.
