While the Fazua as a drive system is the most popular one among the e-road race brands, including Pinarello, the weight of the Pinarello Nytro is only 13 kilogram. When taking of the battery the Nytro weights just 9 kilogram and can be used as a regular road bike. “We have tried to develop the Nytro e-road bike as the perfect mate for people who want to ride a bike with electric assistance,” stated Pinarello. “It should give people the same feeling as when they ride our traditional bikes.”

Other leading brands who preceded Pinarello with the introduction of one or sometimes even a range of e-road bikes were:

  • Haibike
  • Giant
  • Ridley
  • Focus
  • Bianchi
  • Merida
  • Cube
  • Fantic Motor (see more in the discussion at the bottom of this page)

The potential of this product category was confirmed by Focus’ owner Derby Cycle when it presented ‘Project Y’ at the introduction of its e-road race range. This Project Y is the company’s “platform for the electric future” and aimed at growing its e-bike volume which now stands at 100,000 units annually.

System supplier Fazua

While some brands are still playing the hide and seek game by not revealing the supplier of the motor system which is in general hidden inside one of the frame tubes Pinarello openly mentioned the specification of the Fazua’s Evation system. This system is simple to use and gives control over everything, through three buttons and a display LED bar, while the riding functions and reading the data can be done via a remote control. The Fazua Evation system comes with a 250Wh battery pack providing a nominal support of 250W and a maximum power of 60 Nm.

Currently Pinarello’s Nytro is only available in Europe.
