World’s Biggest Notebook Battery Supplier Advancing on E-Bike Market
HSINCHU, Taiwan – The world’s largest notebook battery supplier Simplo Technology is advancing on the e-bike market. “We expect the global e-bike market to grow by approximately 20% annually in the coming years,” said company chairman Raymond Sung.
In a Digitimes report Sung states that he expects that Simplo Technology will increase its e-bike battery shipments by more than 100% this year and another 75% in 2018. “In terms of shipments we are currently second behind Bosch, but we are looking to take the lead in the near future,” claims CEO Sung.
Stagnated growth of notebook shipments
The e-bike market has become increasingly important for this battery giant because of increasing competition from Chinese competitors in combination with the stagnated notebook market. Simplo gained a substantial share of the Japanese e-bike market, in particular with its main e-bike customer Yamaha, while they report that demand from Europe is starting to pick-up now. The company claims to ship between 400,000 and 500,000 e-bike batteries this year which is to grow to some 700,000 in 2018 and up to a million in 2019.
Currently, the electric bicycle battery product line only contributes five percent of Simplo’s overall revenues, but Sung is looking to raise the percentage to at least ten percent. Founded and headquartered in Taiwan, Simplo Technology currently operates multiple facilities in China.
