Poor Growth Results in Cancellation of ISPO Bike
MUNICH, Germany – “After five editions ISPO Bike did not generate enough exhibitors and visitors to continue this show concept”, said Tobias Gröber of Messe München after the decision to cancel ISPO Bike.
This was the conclusion after Messe München has re-evaluated its activities in the bicycle sector. “In the future, we will concentrate our involvement in the bicycle sector on the travel and leisure exhibition f.re.e, and continue to expand the already existing area for bicycles with a clear focus on consumers in terms of content as well as concept,” says Gröber, Executive Director of Business Unit Consumer Good of Messe München.
Surprising or not?
The decision to discontinue ISPO Bike does not come as a surprise. After the start as Bike Expo in 2009, the show changed its name to ISPO Bike. It did not help to generate more exhibitors and visitors. Despite the support of the German retail powerhouse ZEG who organized their annual member meeting during ISPO Bike , the competition of Eurobike was simply too strong.
“We want to change the discussions with our business relations in the bicycle industry from whether they want to hire square meters on an event to using our year around services like ISPO ACADEMY, the interactive ISPO COMMUNITY and ISPO JOBS”, adds Gröber.
