ExpoBici Padua 2015: The Show Must Go On?
PADUA, Italy – They call it the “War of the cycling shows”, a “Montagues and Capulets” story of the present days in Italy. One contender is in Verona the other in Padua and the bike as their love object.
Until last year ExpoBici organized by PadovaFiere SpA was the sole exhibition of the Italian cycling scene and the second most important European bike show, thanks to its 550 exhibitors and 60,000 visitors. However two months ago, Veronafiere, just 80 kilometres west of Padua, presented the “CosmoBike” show with the clear aim to contend the primacy (and the exhibitors) to the event in Padua.
Italian exhibitors are still in doubt
Last Friday ExpoBici introduced its 2015 edition on a press conference. The event should have given answers to the doubts of the 550 exhibitors: to exhibit or not at the Padua show this year? Whether ExpoBici succeeded in that effort remains for now the question which will be answered by the number of application forms for a booth.
2015 Show with four guidelines
Former pro rider Moreno Argentin has been called by ExpoBici to lead the organizing committee. Four guidelines are behind his project for 2015: the consolidation of the event’s leadership at the national level, with an increased attention to foreign markets; ExpoBici should not just be a “shop window”, but a tool to promote the cycling culture; the decision to involve the city of Padua and its surroundings; the search for strategies to help exhibitors to increase their sales volumes and to open new trade routes.
More side events
How? New events, more Bike Test days, a Fuorisalone. This idea is borrowed from the reputed Milan Furniture show. It includes a series of “bike” themed events, meetings, design exhibitions and parties, to be organized in the city of Padua during the fair week. And there will be more: Bike & Arts, Bike & Fashion and a “ExpoBici Tour” in eight stages, attending major cycling events in Italy along with the companies that will join the project.
“Cosmo Bike Mobility Show”
Meanwhile competitor “CosmoBike” is playing another ace: “Cosmo Bike Mobility Show” the first Italian fair for urban cycling mobility scheduled to take place during the ExpoBici dates. So, what will be the exhibitors’ choice? We’ll know in early February, as the deadline for the submission of both shows application forms is January 31st 2015.
