Dedicated e-Mobility Exhibition at Motorcycle Show Intermot
COLOGNE, Germany – The bi-annual Intermot attracted large crowds to Cologne last week to see the latest in motorcycles and scooters. Compared to previous Intermot editions, also e-bikes and pedelecs gained a strong position on the show floor.
To facilitate the growing product category of electric two-wheelers and drive technologies, the past editions of Intermot saw a dedicated e-Motion hall. Also this year new products in the field of urban mobility and active leisure time activities on electric two-wheels were presented.
Whereas e-bikes have already been successfully introduced within the sports bike sector, the e-scooter is getting a stronger focus of the public as alternative for mobility, especially in the urban environment. It was remarkable to see that especially new suppliers were offering all categories of e-scooters and not the traditional scooter brands. Boasting over 15,000 test drives, the test course for e-scooters and e-bikes was correspondingly well-frequented at this year’s Intermot e-Motion.
No electric motorbikes
None of the well-known motorcycle brands like BMW, Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha presented any news on e-mobility. According to a Honda spokesman, “all the leading brands, including ourselves, are studying the opportunities to market e-motors. Though the development of the technology in batteries and chargers needs more time to make them really suitable for motorcycles. For sure it will come but nobody knows how long it will take.”
