27th China International Bicycle Fair Kicked Off in Shanghai
SHANGHAI, China – Last Saturday the 27th China International Bicycle Fair opened its door for a 4-day exhibition. It presents the capabilities of China’s close to 5 billion US dollar bicycle industry on which the latest sales and export statistics were presented. Next to China’s finest other exhibitors from all around the world are gathered in Shanghai’s new and huge NECC exhibition center.
The 27th China International Bicycle Fair holds a total of 1,226 exhibiting companies from 20 countries. Among them the number of e-bike exhibitors is striking; not only the ones displaying complete e-bikes, but also the ones that offer e-bike drive systems or parts like displays, batteries and other electronics that come with the rapidly growing bicycle category.
CBA bicycle market statistics
The majority of the company’s talking part in this year’s China Cycle Show are of Chinese origin as China in volume makes up 60% of the world’s bicycle industry. At the show the China Bicycle Association (CBA) released its latest bicycle market statistics. They claim that in 2016 over 70% of the 80 million bicycles China produced were exported. That export of some 55 million bikes is valued at 3 billion US dollars. This results in an average export value per unit of USD 54.50. Such ‘economical’ ones made up over 80% of China complete bike export, according to the CBA market statistics. Next to the complete bicycles the Chinese industry exported another USD 1.8 billion in parts and accessories.
