No, its certainly not new. In fact its was about 30 years ago that Sturmey-Archer launched its Duomatic gearhub. But this two-speed design (direct drive + 38% = 138% ratio) is making a comeback as retro and transport bikes are all the rage these days. SAs Duomatic or B2C 2-speed Kick Shift, comes with steel or alloy housing, as well in coaster brake and freewheel versions.
