Gates Carbon Drive To Open European R&D Lab
MÜHLHAUSEN, Germany – The European market currently generates 70% of Gates Carbon Drive’s turnover in the bicycle industry. “To keep in close contact with the market, we will open an European R&D lab and testing facility,” says Frank Scurlock, Global Business Development Manager for Gates Corporation.
The new operation, based in in Mühlhausen, Germany, will open in spring 2015. The new facility will also be used for demo rides and dealer training. “At the moment the Dutch market is still leading, especially in the commuting and trekking category,” says Frank Scurlock. “But the German market has the biggest potential for us. That’s why we selected this location.”
“Gates Carbon Drive belts are specified in a wide variety of products, from automobiles to elevator and Harley Davidson motorbikes. Still the bicycle market is very important for us as the belt is visible on a bike. It is one of the few applications where people can actually see the product when using the product,” notes Scurlock.
