HANNOVER, Germany (3 March 2000)–At this year’s iF Design Award 2000 in Hannover, Germany, SRAM entered its 9.0 Rear derailleur, 9.0sl Halfpipe shifter and Brakelever. The contest, judged by an internationally renowned group of Industrial designers, attracted over 900 participants from 30 countries. In the end, SRAM’s 9.0 Derailleur received the highest honors in three categories: Top Ten Award; Design Award; and Ecology Design Award

The Top Ten Award reflects that the SRAM 9.0 Derailleur was rated Top Ten Best Design out of all 1,700 products submitted. SRAM was in good company; also ranked in the Top Ten were the Audi TT Roadster and the new ICE Bullet train, among others.

“The design is based on a new material, which is convincingly combined with customary materials and manufacturing technologies to form a functionally and visually superb product,” stated the jury about the 9.0 Derailleur. “You can really see that this sealed gear system is intended for rugged use and will endure.”

Both the SRAM 9.0sl shifters and brake levers were awarded with Ecology Design Awards for their ecologically responsible design and their reflection of a holistic product and corporate philosophy.

The iF Design seal represents an outstanding achievement in product development, design and manufacturing knowledge, as it indicates to the consumer that the product is above-average quality. (JW)
