DÜSSELDORF, Germany (11 May 2000)–For the first time in its history the German motorbike accessory expert Eurobike AG (Hein Gericke, Polo, Go To Helmetstudio, Helmet House, Schuh, IFW) cracked the DEM200 million (US$92mn;EUR102mn) sales barrier in half a year.. According to the company’s latest half-year report (1 October 1999 to 31 March 2000), total sales increased 27% to DEM 200.4 million.
“Seeing that October to March is not the season for our core markets, these results are fantastic,” says Eurobike’s chairman of the board Herbert Will. The Düsseldorf-based company records the major portion of its sales through its retail chain store business in Germany. All in all, Eurobike oversees 239 national and international chain stores. National retail chain store sales reached DEM103.6 million (US$47.66mn;EUR52.8mn) for the half year, while international sales were up 35% to DEM27.3 million (US$12.56mn;EUR13.9mn). Eurobike successfully entered the US market last year by taking over Intersport Fashions West Inc. (IFW) in Tustin, California. Similarly, sales for Eurobike’s wholesale business increased 63% to DEM 69.5 million (US$31.97mn;EUR35.45mn). Will points out that the great results underline the company’s strategy to be more lifestyle-driven. (JB)
