SURSEE, Switzerland (3 August 2000) – The concentration trend seen elsewhere in Europe has finally made its way to Europe’s neutral rock, Switzerland. Gretener AG, best known for its Tigra brand, has entered into a cooperation with Mondia Fahrrad, whose bike brands include Allegro, Condor and Mondia. Combined, Tigra (currently the fourth largest producer in Switzerland) and Mondia (the sixth largest), form the second largest manufacturer in Switzerland. However, both companies say the cooperation is in no way a acquisition or takeover. The cooperation unites Tigra and Mondia’s production, purchasing and logistics, while product management and sales as well as the various brands will remain independent. Many feel the move was a necessity, as both companies have seen their output drop by 10,000 to 15,000 bikes in the last few years. Moreover, it is widely believed that this is only a temporary move and that a compete fusion is only a question of time. (PH)
