MAARSSEN, Netherlands (Sep 13) – French Go Sport Group has claimed that it’s Go Sport and Courir networks have increased their market share in France from 8.5% to 9.5% in the first half of this year. The company has invested heavily in both formula’s and that seems to be successful now. The new management, under Jean Paul Giraud is working to double sales per square meter. A surprising move that company has made is to invest in trained and experienced staff – in a day and age when costs are cut at every conceivable corner. This has made staff costs some 19% higher, but accelerated sales growth, from 10.2% in ’04 to 14.9% over the first period of 2005. This might be seen as an example for other retailers, and prove that actually advising customers is not an art destined to become extinct. For the whole of 2005, a 10% increase is predicted on a same store basis. Go Sport it self plussed 5.6%, while Courir grew 17.6%.
