WINDHOEK, Namibia (Jan 19) – A container with 350 donated bicycles from Britain was unloaded at the Bicycling Empowerment Network Namibia (BEN) last week.

The organisation has distributed about 400 bicycles in Namibia so far and aims to distribute 2 000 this year.
BEN Namibia has trained six Namibians as bicycle mechanics.

They also support Mr Elephant’s Bicycle Garage in the DRC informal settlement in Swakopmund by providing the shop with affordable bikes for resale.

BEN Namibia is currently negotiating with the Windhoek City Council to begin installing cycle lanes and plan for the integration of cycling with an improved public transport system.
