NUNSPEET, Netherlands – After taking over Pearl Izumi beginning 2008, Shimano and the world’s leading cycling apparel and upcoming running brand are now joining forces in distribution. This will result in the countries where Shimano has its own sales offices – such as the Benelux, Nordic (Sweden, Finland), France and Poland – Shimano is going to be Pearl Izumi’s exclusive distributor. Shimano Nordic will also take care of the Danish market.
Jürgen Sprich, Managing Director of Pearl Izumi Europe, explains; “This is a logical step given the strengths of both our companies. Shimano has a very strong presence in these countries and can serve the market perfectly. In other markets, Pearl Izumi already works successfully with a direct distribution model that will not change.”
Complementary to existing ranges
Also Shimano’s Europe’s Bike Holding managing director Marc van Rooij looks forward to representing Pearl Izumi. “With Pearl Izumi we have a premium brand that is complementary to existing ranges such as Shimano Cycling Wear and shoes. With both brands we can serve our customers even better than at this moment."
"We already have positive experiences with other product categories when it comes to dual brand strategy. Pearl Izumi gives us a stronger product offering that includes running apparel and footwear for our many strong customers in the sporting goods industry.”
The cooperation between the two companies will be effective per January 1, 2009 when the pre sales for Pearl Izumi’s fall/winter collection 2009 starts.
