BAD URACH, Germany – Magura is setting up production in Taichung, Taiwan. To facilitate OEMs based in Asia on a more just-in-time basis, Magura-Taiwan will start production during the second quarter of this year.

According to product manager Stefan Pahl production will start: “With suspension fork assembling. It will be followed with disc brake assembling during the third quarter of this year.”Some of the components for the suspension forks as well as the hydraulic brakes are from Germany as well as sourced from Taiwan makers.

With this move Magura follows other European component makers that have set up shop in Asia. Shortening lead times is what this is all about as more and more bikes for Europe are sourced in Asia as well as from Taichung where the complete Taiwanese bike industry is located. Magura’s rim brake production stays in Germany: “Because rim brakes are mainly used by European bike producers focusing on the commuting segment,” explains product manager Pahl.
