Ravello Bikes has introduced a patented take-apart frame design that allows a full-size aluminum or carbon road or tri bike to fit in a 62-linear-inch case that fits as standard-sized luggage on the airlines. This case size avoids airline oversize fees and is easy to transport, unlike cumbersome oversized bike boxes.

Ravello’s two-piece travel bikes look like everyday road bikes, because the proprietary frame junctions are unobtrusive. “This selling feature will be popular among enthusiasts, who want to be able to travel with their bikes,” says Brian Myers, Ravello designer. “We are trying to redefine the travel bike away from retro steel and popularize a take-apart bike that is lighter and looks state of the art.”

Ravello is also seeking companies to license this technology, which can be applied to niches such as triathlon bikes, take-apart tandems and 26-inch wheeled travel bikes. “The company that decides to take advantage of this technology will jump way ahead of other brands,” Myers claims.
