First some background information; in October 2015 US outdoor company Black Diamond Inc. – since 2012 owner of POC – sold this company to Investcorp Group. This Bahrain-based investment company is focused on offering alternative investment products for private and institutional clients. Investcorp is, among others, majority shareholder in Dainese; the Italian motorcycle and bike protection gear company. POC founder Stefan Ytterborn remained as CEO – and led the company up to the beginning of this month.

 ‘My new ride is electric’

Now Ytterborn wants to concentrate on his new venture Cake. “On the mission to speed up the journey towards a zero emission society, my new ride is electric. I’m extremely excited to announce that we are innovating new technologies for a sustainable approach to off-road motorcycling, allowing for an optimized riding experience yet being respectful to the planet.”

Launch in 2017

Leveraging the joint background from outdoor and innovation, the new technology company develops uncompromised high performance zero emission off-road motorcycles, scheduled to launch in 2017. The team behind Cake is thinking big, “The goal is to reach a 10 percent market share in off-road motorcycles in 10 years.”

The current Cake team consists of company founder and CEO Stefan Ytterborn, COO Christian Kugelberg, CMO Björn Alberts and CFO Mats Löfgren. As Lead Mechanical Engineer on board: David Earle.  Further company founders are two members out of the Ytterborn family: “Go-getter” Karl Ytterborn and test-rider Nils Ytterborn.

Cake (see ridecake.com) is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden and has its technology office in Taiwan.
