Brose Develops E-MTB Motor

BERLIN, Germany – With its new e-bike motor, the ‘Drive S’, Brose Antriebstechnik now offers its first e-MTB specific motor. Until now the German company only made a 25 km/h e-bike motor for city- and trekking bikes as well as a 45 km/h motor for speed pedelecs.

Brose’s new 25 km/h motor ‘Drive S’ for mountainbikes is based on the technology of the ‘Drive T’. This classic e-bike motor was the so called ‘allrounder’ for urban bicycles, while Brose’s ‘Drive TF’ was previously developed for speed pedelecs (up to 45 km/h).

More torque and appropriate support

According to Sales and Marketing Drives E-Bike Manager Volkmar Rollenbeck, “the new ‘Drive S’ offers 15 percent more torque and provides riders appropriate support even at high pedalling frequencies of 60 to 90 rotations per minute. Moreover the new design ensures consistent powerful performance under continuous load, even on technically demanding trails.”

What are the difference

The new ‘Drive S’ has the same body as the classic ‘Drive T’ so you can’t see the difference on the outside of the motor. “The transformation was made inside the motor. For the e-MTB ‘Drive S’ systems we use another kind of PCB (editor’s note: ‘Printed Circuit Board’) with 16 new components,” notes Rollenbeck with a mysterious smile and without specifying these new components.

While the ‘Drive T’ and the ‘Drive TF’ motors are already available the new ‘Drive S’ will enter the market in September 2017. Just like the previous models, also the new one is Made in Germany. Brose also points out another huge benefit: “we are able to offer bicycle manufacturers a maximum of individualization thanks to the wide range of assembly options as well as displays and batteries.”
