World Premiere: Conti – NuVinci Integrated Mid-Motor
HANNOVER, Germany – In close cooperation with Fallbrook, Continental developed a mid-motor with an integrated NuVinci stepless automatic transmission. This new 48er Revolution eliminates the need, previously unavoidable, for gear-changing at the rear wheel.
Recently Continental premiered its own 48 Volt mid-motor e-bike drive system, including two motor units; the 48er Revolution and the 48er Prime. Especially the Revolution presents an all new riding experience thanks to the almost completely automatic ride as the mid-motor features an integrated stepless NuVinci transmission.
More technical advantages
This 2 in 1 integration offers some additional technical advantages, too. There are fewer interfaces between drivetrain components, and bike handling is improved thanks to the low centre of gravity. Also, the rear wheel is easier to access and refit for servicing. Power transmission to the rear wheel can be either by chain or via belt drive. Both the 48er Revolution and the 48er Prime motor units produce an maximum torque of 70 Nm while the battery has a capacity of 600 Wh.
Cycle Union launching partner
The Continental 48er Revolution is fitted on the e-bike manufaktur 8CHT which has been launched during the recently held Cycle Union dealershow in Oldenburg, Germany. As launching partner of the new Continental mid-motor, Cycle Union was closely involved with the development.
Rainer Gerdes, Director of Marketing and Product Management at Cycle Union, said: “Here at e-bike manufaktur we have been through a period of intensive product development, and we are now proud to be powering forward with the new Continental drive system. Our ground-up revamp of the product portfolio was also driven by the imperative that all future models should have battery-integrated frame designs. We have invested heavily in this premium product line: the central element consists of a single moulded frame via a casting process. The objective for this design was to exceed all of our requirements regarding rigidity and safety.”
The e-bike manufaktur 8CHT will be available from the first quarter of 2018.
