VIENNA, Austria – Intersport Austria is investing in its neighbouring countries. In the Czech Republic the company recently acquired 100% of the shares of Sport Centrum Drapa. This company operates 15 Intersport outlets in the country.

Next to that Intersport Austria already runs three corporate stores in Slovakia. This month a new one will be added to that list plus another three have been planned for 2008.

Intersport has six outlets in Hungary. Before the end of this year three stores will be opened, including one in Budapest en five more are to follow before the end of 2008.

The Austrian sports business has had a very bad winter season. According to Intersport, its affiliated Austrian retailers ended up with a minus of 1 percent in turnover. This was only thanked to a gain of more than 20% in segments other than wintersports, like cycling, running fitness and outdoor. Despite the bad winter season Intersport opened six new stores in Austria in 2007 and has planned five more in 2008.
