SAINT FELIU LLOBREGAT, Spain – The Spanish Association of Brands and Bicycles (AMBE) which was formed last year by a dozen members has now already 26 partners. Some other 16 companies are interested in joining the association. “Our aim is to reach 80 associates at the end of the year”, says AMBE’s president, Gonzalo Garcia de Salazar.

The companies affiliated with AMBE are manufacturers of bicycles, components, accessories, and cycling apparel. Its goal is to unify the cycling sector and become the voice for the industry when dealing with government agencies and departments and facilitate joint actions on behalf of the cycling industry with regard to grants and other initiatives.

AMBE hired Iván Pérez-Cuadrado, as Technical Secretary. Iván has a long history within the bicycle market as founder and managing director of Adrik Bike Consulting. He will be the contact person and a resource for the Association.

AMBE’s president, Gonzalo Garcia de Salazar says that: “The incorporation of Iván Pérez-Cuadrado to the AMBE secretariat two months ago is a breakthrough in establishing the ‘body’ of the association.”

Among the first actions to be undertaken by AMBE are lobbying against the proposals of the Insurance Companies Association, which has submitted a proposal for Registration and Compulsory Insurance for all bicycles. AMBE will also attempt to address the continuing problem with various legislative modifications, grant applications and state and regional level grants for promoting ride to work initiatives, training programs, and anti-theft campaigns, as well as providing market information to various administrations, so they have a full understanding of the economic impact of the Spanish bicycle industry.

AMBE has established contacts with major European cycle shows, is currently gathering information and industry data on the Spanish cycling sector, and has initiated contacts with European associations such as COLIBI and COLIPED, as well as the Association ANFAC and the Spanish Business Platform Bicycle, PEB.
